We believe that theater can be produced in public spaces that recognizes the history of both buildings and the natural environment as story. We promote the forgotten and silenced voices of women, native and immigrant narratives, and the land, sea, and mountains where we live.
Founded in 2024, we gather artists to create theater at locations around Santa Barbara, California.
WHAT IS SITE-SPECIFIC THEATER?
Location inspires story. Location is the main character. Location provides natural design elements such as lighting, set, and sound. The actual text may be from several sources including well-known literary works, poetry, biographies, and popular culture. The audience enters into an environment that is already there, to listen to words they may already know but with innovative directing that both emphasizes and challenges its meaning.
MORE Directors Education Program
To create MORE Theater, we need to support more directors. We provide mentors and opportunities for new or returning directors to create site-specific productions in public spaces to reach wider audiences. You may designate your donation for this specific program and be acknowledged as a MORE Directors supporter.
